Indoor Air Quality

What Is a UV Air Purifier?

A UV air purifier installs ultraviolet lamps inside the ductwork or near the evaporator coil to help neutralize mold, bacteria, and other microorganisms as air passes through the system. It targets biological growth rather than filtering particles the way a standard filter does.

This definition is pending sign-off from a licensed HVAC reviewer.

Why It Matters to You

UV systems address a different problem than filtration — microbial growth on the evaporator coil itself — which is why some homeowners use both a filtration upgrade and a UV system together.

Practical Guidance

UV lamps have a service life and need periodic bulb replacement to keep working — ask about the replacement schedule when one is installed.
