Air Conditioning

What Is a Condenser?

The condenser is the outdoor unit of a central air conditioning or heat pump system. It releases heat collected from inside the home into the outdoor air, using a fan, a coil, and a compressor working together to complete the refrigerant cycle.

This definition is pending sign-off from a licensed HVAC reviewer.

Why It Matters to You

A condenser that's crowded by plants, debris, or fencing can't release heat efficiently, which forces the whole system to work harder and can shorten its lifespan.

Practical Guidance

Keep at least 18-24 inches of clearance around the outdoor unit and check it after storms for leaves or debris caught in the coil fins.
